What does it cost?
Tech Connect is a FREE program, it doesn’t cost you anything to do this course.

What’s the purpose of this TECH CONNECT training program?
Arts Centre Melbourne has designed this new industry training program to respond to specific arts sector needs identified by Creative Victoria during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020. The program will provide skills development for people in outer-metropolitan areas to improve work readiness and employment opportunities.

Do I need experience?
No, you just need a passion for the arts and an interest in developing a career beginning a career pathway in live events, cultural and performing arts centres, and galleries.

Do I need to be living in an outer metropolitan area to submit an EOI?
Yes.

Do I need to be 18 to 30 years of age to submit an EOI?
Yes, at the time of submitting your EOI.

Do I need to identify as female to apply?
Yes.

Do I need to identify as First Nations or as Culturally or Linguistically Diverse to apply?
Yes.

Do I need to be nominated by one of the program partners?
Yes. Our partners are Bunjil Place, Wyndham Cultural Centre and the Public Galleries Association of Victoria. Our partners will be reaching out to their networks for nominations. There are 12 training places on offer at each venue.
Who will run the training?
Arts Centre Melbourne has Australia’s only industry Registered Training Organisation (RTO) for the performing arts. The RTO’s experienced trainers have designed the program for learners and will deliver the training in partnership with Bunjil Place and Wyndham Cultural Centre’s experienced technicians and teams.

Will I get paid?
No, but learners will receive a daily cash per diem of $40 to help cover costs like transportation and food. Venue partners will provide tea, coffee and water.

Am I guaranteed a job?
No, but the program will give you skills and experience relevant to working in the performing arts and galleries sector.
What we can tell you, is that Arts Centre Melbourne’s RTO has trained more than 350 people since 1997, with a high success rate leveraging industry networks to transition graduates into employment. Feedback from previous TECH CONNECT partner venues confirm they are more likely to engage a person trained by Arts Centre Melbourne than another person with equivalent skills gained through other training service providers.

What about COVID-19? Will it affect my learning?
COVID-19 restrictions are challenging to manage for venues and components of the training can only be delivered hands-on. In the event of venue closures during the training period, Arts Centre Melbourne and the venue partners will be as flexible as possible. Options would include rescheduling affected units of study and/or providing some units of study online.
