Navigate Your Career, Your Way

July 14, 2023 | Course, Events, Jobseekers, Recent News, Skills

‘The strength of the Skills & Jobs Centre lies not only in its attendance to individual client needs, but also in strong partnerships with community and local industry, linking training and skills development to relevant employment opportunities and local economy growth.’

The ‘Your Career Your Way’ (YCYW) program was developed by VU Polytechnic Skills and Jobs Centre (SJC) Career
Practitioners as an intensive career development program for individuals thinking about re-entering the workforce, considering a complete career change or just unsure about the future direction of their career. This unique, 9-week program was first delivered in October 2022
to local community members and, due to popular demand, YCYW has now been delivered 3 times to participant groups in Melton and Braybrook, with 2 further programs scheduled to commence in July and October 2023.

The SJC wanted to design a program that approaches Career Development a little differently, making it highly informed, client-centric, safe, empowering and outcome-focused. YCYW is all about enabling individuals to consider what is really important to them, to make informed decisions and find workable solutions. The program gives participants a unique opportunity in their otherwise busy lives to make time for exploring ideas, utilizing curiosity, investigating options and discovering more about themselves as they work towards determining their potential career paths.

PROGRAM BENEFITS:

“When people can identify their key strengths and skills and understand all the possibilities, they gain the confidence to make good career decisions. With the guidance of a dedicated career practitioner, YCYW program participants are able to navigate their career, their way” – Di Debrincat YCYW Program Facilitator, Skills and Jobs Centre

What the program participants are saying…

“Inspiring, informative, valuable, encouraging, wonderful opportunity to build confidence, meet others, network and dream about our futures, career wise and for life. Many thanks!”

“The program was fantastic. There was so much useful learning, it was all very helpful and encouraging. I learnt a lot about myself, mostly importantly about my values and strengths. The facilitator (Di) was so warm, friendly and passionate. I always looked forward to Monday mornings, and I left the program every time feeling very encouraged, and hopeful that I can achieve the career of my dreams!”

“Your Career Your Way was an amazing program. It asks the hard questions which focuses on my values and strengths. It gave me the opportunity to understand myself. Wish I had this opportunity a lot earlier.”

“Your Career, Your Way really helped me with securing my current job. I applied all the techniques I learned and it made me more confident going into the interview. I now work as a graphic designer for a secondary school in Sunshine. I hope to see you and my colleagues in the training as well so I can share the good news, and to let them know not to give up on their dreams.”
